Introducing blood test uploads in the January app

Your blood can tell an incredible story about your health—if you know how to read it. That’s why we’re excited to introduce a powerful new feature in the January app: you can now upload your blood test results and receive personalized nutrition guidance from our in-app nutritionist, Jan.

Whether you’re new to January or coming back to restart your health journey, this feature gives you immediate, science-backed value based on your biology.

What you get when you upload your labs

Once you upload a recent blood test (PDF format), January translates your results into a clear, easy-to-understand report—delivered straight to your inbox. Then, inside the app, Jan will help you interpret the data, answer your questions, and guide you with food, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations that are tailored to your body and health goals.

Your report highlights:

  • What’s working well (e.g., strong hormone levels, low inflammation)
  • Areas to improve (e.g., liver enzymes, cholesterol, kidney health)
  • Specific actions you can take (diet, hydration, activity, sleep)
  • Guidance you can talk through with Jan, your in-app nutritionist

Why it matters

Too often, people get blood test results with little to no explanation. Numbers like “ALT” or “LDL” can feel confusing, and it’s not always clear what to do about them.

January changes that. By combining lab data with your in-app food logs, activity, and sleep patterns, we can give you new insights that are practical, personal, and backed by science. We don’t just tell you what your lab results mean, we help you understand what to do about it. It’s your health—translated into action.

New to January? Start with a baseline, then go deeper

If you're just getting started and haven’t yet logged meals, activity, or sleep in the app, think of your first report as a baseline. It will help you understand what your blood test says about your current health and highlight areas to focus on. Then, after a couple of weeks of consistently logging your food and daily habits with January, you can re-run your report. With that added context, Jan can connect the dots between your lifestyle and your lab results—giving you even deeper, more personalized recommendations.

Disclaimer: Our lab reports are for educational purposes only and are not intended to provide clinical advice or guidance. We strongly recommend reviewing the report with your primary care physician. Always consult your physician before making medical decisions, including supplements, or when considering major changes to your diet or lifestyle.

How we protect your data

Your privacy is our top priority. When you upload a lab result, it’s encrypted, stored securely, and used only to generate your personalized insights. We never share your health data with third parties, and you can delete your report anytime from the Profile section of the app. You’re always in control.

Frequently asked questions

What types of blood tests are supported?

We support most standard lab reports from major providers like Labcorp, Quest, MyChart-connected hospitals, and Kaiser. Your report must include at least one metabolic panel or complete blood count (the more data you can provide, the better — including lipid panel and A1c test, if available).. It should be in a PDF format and ideally from the past 12 months, although we accept reports taken within 24 months.

Do I need to upload a full panel or can I use a partial test?

A full panel gives Jan the most context, but you can upload whatever results you have. We’ll let you know if it’s enough for us to generate a report, or if we require additional information. At minimum, we need one metabolic panel or complete blood count.

How long does it take to get my report?

You’ll typically receive your personalized report via email within 10 minutes. You can then start chatting with Jan in the app right away for deeper insight and support.

Is this a one-time thing or can I upload multiple labs?

You can upload new blood tests anytime. In fact, tracking changes over time is one of the best ways to measure your progress and refine your health plan with Jan’s help.

What if I don’t understand something in my report?

Just ask Jan! Your AI coach is trained to explain lab markers in plain English and guide you through what they mean—and what you can do next.

Is my health data safe?

Yes. All lab uploads are encrypted and stored securely. We never share your data with third parties, and you can delete your information at any time. You are always in full control.
